Mounts in Steal an Egg are rideable pets added in Update 8 on October 10, 2026. You create one by feeding a Shooting Star to any pet you own, and the change is permanent. I’ve converted several pets myself and cross-checked the official Discord patch notes, so here’s how Stars drop, what mounts do, and which pets deserve your first Star.
With the Halloween Dimension live this October, there’s never been a better time to ride. Here’s the system at a glance:
| Quick Facts | Details |
|---|---|
| How to get a mount | Feed 1 Shooting Star to any pet |
| Free Stars | Rare nightly Shooting Star event |
| Paid Stars | Stellaris NPC, 5 per week (~1,399 Robux) |
| Speed boost | None β mounts are cosmetic |
| Reversible? | No, the change is permanent |
| Free mount pets | Nitro Race Win Pass (5 racers) |
There are two ways to get a Star, and I recommend the free route first. Every in-game night, there’s a rare chance a Shooting Star event triggers: the sky goes dark, stars fall, and every eligible player is handed a Star automatically β no racing others to grab it. The catch is eligibility: you must be in the server from the start of that in-game day. Server hopping won’t work, the event rolls per server, and it can happen on private servers too. Attending Admin Abuse events helps, since the devs can force Stars to drop there.
Impatient? Stellaris the Star Handler at spawn sells bundles of 1, 3, or 5 Stars. You can buy up to five per week, the limit resets every Saturday, and community reports put the full set at 1,399 Robux. Check the shop screen before paying β prices have shifted between patches.
Once you hold a Star, the conversion takes under a minute:
The Star is consumed and the transformation can’t be undone. You can only ride a pet that’s equipped in your pen, which is why low earners make poor mounts. Better: a mounted pet still earns money from your pen like before.
Since one Star is forever, I’d never waste mine on a pet I might fuse or sell. Pegasus and Skeleton Horse are the community’s favorite saddle picks, but income should decide it. My top picks:
| Pet | Rarity | Income |
|---|---|---|
| Spirit World Guardian | Divine | $26B/s |
| Pegasus / Skeleton Horse | Eternal | $1.3B/s each |
| Centaur | Secret | $350M/s |
| Stag | Secret | $145M/s |
Any pet works, though β even a Penguin. If you own an Enchanted or Nitro mutation, that glow looks incredible as a mount.
Update 8 also added the Nitro Race event β budget players, this one’s for you. Every 30 minutes a portal opens in one of the biomes; everyone rides a base Ostrich through three Mario Kart-style laps packed with boost strips and power-ups. Finishing first pays 1 Win plus 2,500 Trophies, and Win Pass milestones unlock five pets you hatch and ride as exclusive race mounts:
| Race Wins | Reward | Rarity |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Race Seahorse | Legendary |
| 5 | Race Lizard | Mythic |
| 15 | Race Bird | Cosmic |
| 21 | Race Cheetah | Secret |
| 30 | Engine Snail | Eternal |
Spend leftover Trophies in the event shop on the Nitro mutation (475), boosters, or the permanent Racing Bat (10,000) β races cost nothing to enter.
Three errors ruin Stars every day. First, using one on a pet you might fuse or sell β that Star is gone. Second, server hopping for the nightly event; eligibility requires staying from the start of the in-game day. Third, expecting Speed: mounts add zero stats, so keep grinding the treadmill for movement.
No. As of the October 10, 2026 patch, mounts are purely cosmetic β no Speed, carry weight, or guardian bonuses.
No. Feeding a Star is permanent and the item is consumed on use, so choose your pet carefully.
The nightly event is pure RNG, but Stellaris sells a maximum of five per week, resetting every Saturday.
Yes. A mounted pet in your pen earns the same income per second as before.
