Sub Abilities in Bizarre Lineage are your second combat identity slotted alongside your Stand; they give you three unique active moves, a passive buff, and even a colored dodge. There are five Sub Abilities total: Human, Vampire, Ripple (Hamon), Cyborg (Half-Human Half-Machine), and Spin. Each is unlocked via specific NPCs or items across Morioh Cho. Here’s a quick-reference table before we dive in:
| Sub Ability | How to Unlock | Passive | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Default | +0.02 HP regen/0.1s | Early game only |
| Vampire | Vampire Mask + Elder Vampire quest | Blood meter regen + lifesteal | PvP sustain |
| Ripple (Hamon) | Ancient Ghost NPC (Bus Stop 13) | Slight HP regen | Combo/stun |
| Cyborg (HHHM) | Rudol von Stroheim NPC (Bus Stop 3) | 15% defense boost | Tanky builds |
| Spin | Defeat Spin User NPC (night spawn) | Steel Ball access | Combo pressure |

Every character starts here β no unlock needed. The only perk is a passive regeneration of 0.02 HP every 0.1 seconds. There are no active moves and no dodge color change. Human is a placeholder; swap it out as soon as you can.
How to Get: Use a Vampire Mask (bought from the Shop or looted from chests) to transform. Then head to Bus Stop 18 β Graveyard β Dio’s Chapel cave. Inside the smaller castle, find the Elder Vampire NPC and complete his quest chain. Tips: collect Bones, Skulls, and Coins from Raid chests (Avdol Raid at Bus Stop 14 is easiest). Civilians for the quest respawn near Bus Stop 1 after you clear Delinquents/Thugs.
Passive: Fills a red blood meter for bonus HP regen. Also grants a flat +0.02 HP regen at all times. With High Speed Regeneration unlocked, total regen jumps to +0.04 HP β the strongest healing sub ability in the game.
Moveset:
Dodge Color: Red
How to Get: Go to Bus Stop 13 and look for the sunflower area near the bridge. Speak to the Ancient Ghost NPC and accept his quest. The hardest step involves killing Night Vampires β they only spawn at night. Find them at Bus Stop 1 (behind trees past the Rengatei coffee shop), near George NPC at Bus Stop 11, or through the PvE quest board.
Passive: Slight HP regeneration. All Ripple moves deal bonus damage to Vampires.
Moveset:
Dodge Color: Yellow (with invincibility frames start to end)
Pro Tip: Ripple is the best Sub Ability for combos. Sendo Ripple Overdrive starts pressure at long range, and all three moves chain directly into Stand attacks.
How to Get: Head to Bus Stop 3 and find Rudol von Stroheim NPC nearby. Accept and complete his quest. This is one of the most straightforward unlocks in the game.
Passive: Reduces incoming damage by a flat 15% β always active, no meter to manage.
Moveset:
Dodge Color: Purple
How to Get: Spin Users are rare night-only random spawns β they don’t have a fixed NPC location. Wait for night cycle or server hop, then sweep the full map. Defeating a Spin User grants the item or essence needed to unlock this sub ability.
Passive: Access to Steel Ball weapons, adding a projectile layer to your melee build.
Moveset:
Dodge Color: Yellow
You can switch Sub Abilities at any time by finding the new NPC and meeting its requirements β there’s no permanent commitment.
Vampire ranks #1 for PvP β lifesteal through Leeching Terror, stun tools, and strong regen with High Speed Regeneration make it the most complete kit. Cyborg’s 15% defense reduction is a strong runner-up.
Yes. You can equip one Sub Ability and one Fighting Style (Karate, Boxing, or Kendo) simultaneously alongside your Stand. All three systems work together in the same build.
Night Vampires only spawn at night. Check behind the trees past the Rengatei coffee shop near Bus Stop 1, near the George NPC at Bus Stop 11, or use the PvE quest board.
Spin is in the game but hard to unlock β you must find and defeat a Spin User NPC, which only spawns at night at random locations. Server hop if you can’t find one.
No, switching doesn’t remove your Stand or Fighting Style. You just need to meet the new sub ability’s item or quest requirements.
