There are now 20 pickaxes, from the free Wooden Pickaxe (1 power) to the Enchanted Pickaxe (250B power, $200Qa). Many guides still list 18 and crown Celestial, which is outdated. I’ve listed every pickaxe with its rarity, cost, and power below, plus how to buy them and when upgrading actually pays off.

You start with the Wooden Pickaxe and buy upgrades with the cash your pets earn. Prices climb much faster than power, so check each row before you save up.

Power runs from 1 to 60. Grab Stone ($80) and Iron ($800) right away, then save for Golden ($20K). These cheap upgrades are quick wins while your base income is still small.
Each jump here roughly quadruples your power, but the price rises five to ten times. Don’t rush a purchase you can’t afford twice over in income.
From Crystal (1M power) onward, you’re paying in billions and trillions. Sci Fi gives triple the power of Celestial, and Enchanted gives ten times as much.
The Pickaxe Shop sits in the Safe Zone, next to the Animal Merging machine on the left side of spawn.
Power is the damage you deal per swing. With the Hacker Pickaxe (15M), an egg with 30M health breaks in two hits. Upgrade when breaking the egg is the slowest part of your run.
If you lose more time running or dodging guards, put your cash into Speed and trails instead. Pickaxe power doesn’t make you run faster.
Pro tip: Planet X, the late-game zone, needs 100B Speed to enter and a Sci Fi or Enchanted Pickaxe to break its eggs. Plan for both before you buy either. Check our Break and Steal an Egg zones guide for the full Speed requirements.
