Chasm-Stalker is the endgame rod added with Fisch’s Mariana’s Awakening update. You can’t buy it on day one — you have to finish Vaelor’s five-part questline, open the Obsidian Trench, complete its Bestiary, and defeat the trench boss Skolopendra before the rod goes on sale.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Unlock method | Finish Vaelor’s questline + Obsidian Trench Bestiary |
| Price | 5,000,000 C$ |
| Where to buy | Central crystal pedestal, Obsidian Trench |
| Mutation | 35% chance of Myriapodic |
| Luck / Lure Speed | 278% / 135% |
This guide walks through every stage of the unlock, from finding Vaelor to buying the finished rod.
Head to Roslit Bay and find Vaelor near the Mariana’s Veil entrance, close to the dock. His first stage, Chart the Veil, just asks you to discover all of Mariana’s Veil. Once that’s done, Worthy of the Abyss sends you to five descendants scattered across the region’s deeper zones.
If Veil of the Forsaken is still locked for you, the route in starts at the south end of Calm Zone: a crack in the wall leads to a stone obstacle course and a gate that needs a Magma Leviathan, Frozen Leviathan, and Crowned Anglerfish placed on its pedestals. That opens the Rainbow Pool, which leads to a chess-statue puzzle and a short Scylla boss fight you only need to clear once.
Each descendant hands you a rod-specific catch list. Bring the listed rod or you’ll waste casts.
| Descendant | Location | Rod needed | Catch requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ignis | Volcanic Vents | Volcanic Rod | 2 perfect Ashen Fortune Charred Coelacanth + 1 Ashen Fortune Obsidian-Plated Piranha | Volcanic Gauntlets |
| Glacius | Challenger’s Deep | Challenger’s Rod | 3 Chilled Hoarfrost Halibut + 1 perfect Chilled Glacial Gulper | Challenger’s Gauntlets |
| Tenebris | Abyssal Zenith | Rod of the Zenith | 2 Wrath Lumin-Lure Lanternfish + 1 perfect Wrath Void-Drifter Jelly | Abyssal Gauntlets |
| Luminis | Calm Zone | Ethereal Prism Rod | 4 Prismize Geode Grouper + 2 perfect Prismize Pearl-Plated Pleco | Calm Gauntlets |
| Resonus | Veil of the Forsaken | Leviathan’s Fang Rod | 5 perfect Gargoyle Goby + 3 perfect Wraith-Whisper Ray | Veiled Gauntlets |
You can tackle these in any order. Rod of the Zenith is purchasable in Abyssal Zenith, and Leviathan’s Fang Rod costs 350,000 C$ at the Veil of the Forsaken entrance. For the Calm Zone catches, use Seaweed bait and fish from your own position rather than chasing the roaming fish model — targeting it directly doesn’t register the catch.
Finishing all five combines your gear into Mariana’s Gauntlets, a weaker blend of every regional passive.
Return to Vaelor for two final stages: Into the Void and The Obsidian Threshold.
Present the correct catch at the gate altar, and the five layer gems you lit through the descendant quests activate the Abyss Gate, dropping you into the Obsidian Trench.
Entering the trench applies Trench Suppression, which cuts your rod’s lure speed. Glowing white crystals let you Absorb temporary relief before you start fishing — check in with one periodically.
The trench Bestiary has 12 entries: 10 standard catches (Pumice Puffer, Scoria Scorpionfish, Ash-Cloud Angelfish, Obsidian Gaveltooth, Cinder-Crust Gar, Tectonic Toadfish, Basalt Behemoth, Magma-Glass Marlin, Shatter-Tooth Shark, and Shatterjaw Shark) plus two special encounters.
Hook Veiled Charybdis in the trench rivers using Night conditions and Meteor or Stag Beetle bait (Luminous Larva works as a fallback). Watch the separate hazard bar closely — filling it kills your character, so a deliberate brief tracking miss can bring it back down mid-reel. Avoid whirlpools; they strip rod control.
Land enough Charybdis and the trench crystals turn deep red, triggering Skolopendra’s awakening — this is catch-triggered, not on a timer, so waiting around won’t summon it. Skolopendra prefers Kraken Tentacle bait and Rain, and defeating it plays out as a dedicated red-zone dodge minigame rather than normal reeling.
Filling every entry announces 100% completion and awards the Obsidian Chunk Bobber.
With the questline finished, the boss beaten, and the Bestiary complete, head to the floating rod crystal on the shop pedestal at the center of Obsidian Trench. Interacting unlocks the purchase prompt for 5,000,000 C$.
Chasm-Stalker appears as a segmented black-and-red centipede rod with hooked limbs, diamond markings, and glowing orange eyes. Its stats:
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Lure Speed | 135% |
| Luck | 278% |
| Control | 0.3 |
| Resilience | 80% |
| Max weight | Infinite |
| Myriapodic mutation chance | 35% |
Equipping it also removes the trench’s lure-speed penalty entirely, making it the go-to rod for continued Obsidian Trench fishing.
Complete Vaelor’s five descendant quests, solve the Scylla gate riddle to open the Obsidian Trench, fill its 12-entry Bestiary (including defeating Skolopendra), then buy the rod for 5,000,000 C$.
Yes — the rod is sold only inside the trench, and the trench only opens after the full Mariana’s Veil questline and gate riddle are done.
It has a 35% chance of applying the Myriapodic mutation to whatever you catch.
Its 278% Luck and infinite max weight, combined with removing Trench Suppression, make it strong for continued high-value catches in the Obsidian Trench specifically.
