The Purgatorial mutation multiplies a fish’s selling value by 11.2x in Roblox Fisch, and the only way to land it is the Black Fairy Rod. I’ve been grinding the Venue Encore update since it went live on October 31, 2026, and the short version is this: finish Draven’s questline at the Underground Music Venue, pay the final 53,000,000 C$, then fish with the rod for a 20% chance per catch β 33% when you nail the center of its Soul Judgement mechanic. It’s a limited mutation from Version 2.08.0, so the clock matters. Here’s the quick reference, then every step I use.

Purgatorial is a limited mutation added in Version 2.08.0 that turns any catch into a 11.2x money-maker: a fish worth 1,000 C$ sells for 11,200 C$ before attributes. On the known mutation table, only Aether (12x) and Fury (11.7x) roll higher, which puts Purgatorial firmly in endgame territory. Two things make it special. First, it cannot be appraised β the Moosewood Appraiser will never roll it, so the rod is the only path. Second, every Purgatorial catch guarantees 4 Souls, and each Soul pays 25% of the fish’s C$ value, so the mutation quietly doubles its own payout. Remember that a fish holds one mutation at a time, while Shiny and Sparkling attributes stack on top for even bigger numbers.
The questline starts inside the Underground Music Venue, the trapdoor hangout beneath Crystal Cove. To get there, enter a Strange Whirlpool to reach Vertigo, cross The Depths, then continue to Crystal Cove. If you’ve never opened the venue, catch a Chaotic Enchant Relic with a rod enchanted with Chaotic and place it on the white crystal pedestal inside the cove β the trapdoor opens below. Version 2.08.0 also added a temporary portal for faster access, so check near the entrance first. Once inside, don’t leave empty-handed: where to find Tormentor in Fisch matters if you’re chasing the venue’s other new rods.
Talk to Draven at the venue and select “I’ll help you find it.” His questline runs five riddle chapters β Where Roots Dream, Voices From Afar, Lights For The Lost, A Letter Left Behind and The Great Blade β each asking you to catch specific mutated fish or fetch items. This is where most anglers stall: many answers require mutations that can’t be appraised, so bring the right gear β the Ghastly enchant for Translucent, Elder Mossripper for Mossy, Splitbranch Twig for Rotting and Thalassar’s Ruin for Ocean’s Ruin. I mapped every riddle answer, bait and rod in my Black Fairy Rod guide, so keep it open while you grind.
The opener, Where Roots Dream, is the best example. Its six riddles resolve like this:
| Riddle | Answer | Where / How |
|---|---|---|
| Where roots dream, steal that never was | Translucent Rotwood Perch | Everturn Forest, Coral bait, Ghastly enchant or Spiritbinder rod |
| Bring forth an ancient covered in moss | Mossy Ancient Wood | Sunstone Island, Elder Mossripper rod |
| Find the crystal creature, rotting from within | Rotting Gem Blobfish | Treasure Island, Golden Shrimp Bait, Splitbranch Twig rod |
| Two teeth swallowed by the depths that refuse the dark | Shiny Depths Key | Vertigo’s Dip (day) or Strange Whirlpool, Magnet bait |
| Retrieve the ocean’s ruined flower of decay | Ocean’s Ruin Rotbloom | Toxic Grove, Rotbloom Hunt pool, Autumn, Thalassar’s Ruin rod |
| Where the drowned giant broke its spine… | Wooden Plank | Sunken ship east of Castaway Cliffs (883.1, 31.8, -1928.2) |
The final stage (stage 10) asks for a jaw-dropping 53,000,000 C$, then sends you down a foggy path to claim the rod. It stings, but the stats justify it: 108% Lure Speed, 288% Luck, 0.18 Control, 28% Resilience, infinite Max KG and a 1,000m line. Budget hard before you commit β selling high-value catches and redeeming freebies from FischFright 3 event content speeds up the saving.
Keep the Black Fairy Rod equipped β any other rod gives a 0% Purgatorial chance. Every catch rolls the rod’s mutation table: 30% Guiltbound (6x), 25% Otherworldly (8x) and 20% Purgatorial (11.2x). In practice, roughly one in five fish comes out Purgatorial, and any species can roll it β I’ve seen everything from Minnows to event fish glow with the effect. Don’t bother rerolling catches at the Appraiser; Purgatorial isn’t in its pool, so failed rolls are just burned C$. If a catch comes out Guiltbound or Otherworldly instead, sell it and recast β the 288% Luck keeps bites fast.
Every 5 to 8 seconds during a reel, the rod’s Soul Judgement minigame activates. Hit the center of the moving bar and three things happen at once: your Purgatorial chance jumps from 20% to 33% (+13%), the fish is stunned for 4 seconds, and you gain +55% Progress Speed. That’s the difference between one Purgatorial fish every five casts and one every three, so treat every activation as mandatory β one in three catches lands the mutation when you do. The rod also has a 45% chance to release 1β4 Souls per catch, each worth 25% of the fish’s value, so even your misses fund the grind.
I see the same three errors wipe out days of progress. Selling quest catches early β every riddle item must be in your inventory when you talk to Draven, and there are no do-overs. Grinding Purgatorial before owning the rod β the mutation doesn’t exist on any other rod, so farm C$ for the 53M payment first. And ignoring Soul Judgement β fishing without centering the bar leaves a 13% mutation chance on the table every single reel, which roughly doubles your time to the first Purgatorial fish.
It multiplies a fish’s sell value by 11.2x β one of the highest multipliers in the game, behind only Aether (12x) and Fury (11.7x). Shiny and Sparkling attributes stack on top of the mutation, and every Purgatorial catch also releases 4 Souls worth 25% of the fish’s value each.
No. Purgatorial is not appraisable and cannot be enchanted, baited or rerolled into existence. The Black Fairy Rod is the only source.
Only the Black Fairy Rod from Draven’s questline. Every other rod has a 0% chance, so keep it equipped while farming.
Yes. It arrived with Version 2.08.0 (Venue Encore) on October 31, 2026, and the venue is a rotating event β farm it before it’s gone.
