To get the Baby Nessie Companion in Fisch, speak to the Headless Horseman outside the Caustic Chapel on Caustic Hallow Island (GPS: -15176.6, 167.1, -9623.5), rescue Baby Nessie from the Chapel using the red-light-green-light mechanic, catch five FischFright 3 Mutation fish while the Chapel lights flicker, then show him Plush, Ghoul, and Zombie Nessie. Complete all three quests and the companion is yours, along with three Baby Nessie skins.
I’ve been grinding FischFright 3 since it launched on October 17, 2026, and this questline is easily one of the event’s best rewards β Baby Nessie is the Headless Horseman’s skittish little loch monster that rattles stubborn fish into giving up faster, especially at night. Here’s my complete walkthrough so you can finish it in one session before the event ends on November 9, 2026.

To reach the Headless Horseman in Fisch, board the Reborn Flying Dutchman on the east side of Moosewood Dock, sail to Caustic Hallow, and head to the back of the island where the Church sits beside the Ritual Cemetery. The Headless Horseman stands right in front of the Chapel β you can’t miss his glowing frame against the green flames.
When I spoke to him, he explained that his Baby Nessie pet is frightened and refuses to leave the Church. Select the “I’ll bring your Baby Nessie back” dialogue option to start the questline. Keep in mind you’ll need the Companion Satchel, which unlocks at Level 30, to actually store the companion once you earn it.
To rescue Baby Nessie, enter the Chapel, pick it up, and carry it to the door using a red-light, green-light approach: move only while the lighting is stable and freeze the instant the lights flicker with lightning.
Here’s exactly how I did it. Walk inside and you’ll spot Baby Nessie drifting around the interior β approach and interact to pick it up. The Chapel is struck by lightning on a cycle, and moving during a strike makes Baby Nessie panic and scurry back into hiding, forcing you to pick it up again. So watch the lights, not your character. Walk steadily while the lighting is calm, stop dead the moment flickering starts, and resume once it stabilizes. It took me two or three cycles to reach the door; rushing is the only way to fail this part.
To stabilize the Chapel in Fisch, catch five fish with the FischFright 3 Mutation from the Chapel Pool β but the count only progresses if you reel each fish in exactly while the Chapel lights are flickering, and all five catches must happen consecutively.
This is the most frustrating quest of the three because it feels like pure RNG. My advice: equip the Eldritch Rod, which has a 40% chance to apply an Eldritch Mutation from the FischFright 3 Mutation pool β that dramatically raises your odds of landing qualifying fish. Cast into the Chapel Pool, keep your eyes on the lighting between reels, and time your catch so the fish lands during a flicker.
If a fish comes in during a stable phase, it simply doesn’t count and your streak resets. Since Frightful Pools and event fish share these mutations, the faster your rod lands catches, the sooner you’ll grind out five in a row.
To complete the final quest, show the Headless Horseman three Nessie variants β Plush Nessie, Ghoul Nessie, and Zombie Nessie. He moves inside the Chapel after the second quest, so hand each one over from your inventory. You must already own all three before he’ll accept them.
| Nessie | Weather | Time | Season | Bait | Best Way to Get It |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plush Nessie | Any | Any | Autumn | Sour Jelly Candy | Trick-or-treating or fishing |
| Ghoul Nessie | Jack-o-Moon | Night | Autumn | Sour Jelly Candy | Ghoul Nessie Ritual at the Cemetery |
| Zombie Nessie | Jack-o-Moon | Night | Autumn | Black Licorice | Haunted Cemetery Ritual |
I got my Plush Nessie from knocking on Trick-or-Treat doors, so start there. The other two need the Haunted Cemetery and its Rituals, which require materials like Ritual Roses to awaken the Skeleton Hands. Jack-o-Moon is a limited weather event with a massive Luck boost, so stack Sour Jelly Candy and Black Licorice bait before your sessions.
Completing the third quest rewards you with the Baby Nessie Companion, plus the Baby Plush, Baby Ghoul, and Baby Zombie Nessie skins. The bonus most guides miss: show the Headless Horseman special variants and he unlocks extra skins β a Skeletal Nessie earns the Baby Skeletal skin, a regular Nessie earns Not-So-Baby Nessie, a Baby Nessie fish earns Tiny-Baby Nessie, and every Shiny version of these unlocks its matching Shiny skin. Keep them in your inventory before visiting him.
Yes β Baby Nessie is one of the strongest FischFright 3 companions for mutation hunters. It rolls a ~7.3% chance for the Jack-o’ mutation (9.5Γ value), ~4.4% each for Doomed, Grim, and Vile (6Γ), and ~1.4% for Eldritch (7Γ), with every percentage improving at Level 10. Its abilities are strengthened 1.1Γ at night and weakened 0.9Γ during the day, and it grants up to +25% Progress Speed against smaller, high-resilience fish. It levels from 1 to 10 by earning XP β catching fish grants +10 Companion XP, petting it grants +5, and Companion Candy instantly adds 1,500.
It applies Halloween mutations like Jack-o’ (9.5Γ) and Eldritch (7Γ) to your catches and adds up to +25% reel Progress Speed, with a 1.1Γ ability boost at night β ideal for farming the event bestiary.
He stands in front of the Caustic Chapel next to the Ritual Cemetery at the back of Caustic Hallow Island, at GPS -15176.6, 167.1, -9623.5. Sail there via the Flying Dutchman at Moosewood.
If you move while the lights flicker, Baby Nessie scurries back into hiding. Don’t worry β just walk over and pick it up again. Your quest progress isn’t lost.
FischFright 3 runs from October 17 to November 9, 2026, at 16:00 UTC, so unlock Baby Nessie and grind its bonus skins before the Caustic Hallow disappears.
Yes, as long as FischFright 3 is live. The questline is free and repeatable any time during the event window β no Treats required.
