The Grow a Garden Fairy Update adds three new pets: Wolpertinger, Redcap, and Manticore. All three come from the Fairy Chest, and the event ends October 17, so time is short. I checked the latest ability tests, and Redcap looks strongest if you own a Mimic Octopus. Here’s the quick breakdown, and you can grab free rewards from our Grow a Garden codes page too.
| Pet | Ability | Cooldown | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wolpertinger | Boosts a random plant’s growth | ~9.5 min | Magical-plant gardens |
| Redcap | Changes egg hatch time, gains XP | ~19 min | Pet leveling |
| Manticore | Eats 8+ mutation fruit, may add Toxic | ~29 min | Mutation farming |
The Fairy Event runs from October 10 (8:30pm UTC) to October 17 (8pm UTC). Each Fairy Chest holds three possible pets and three possible seeds, so expect duplicates.
Fairy Points fund upgrades and shop items. Here’s how I earn them:
You can also buy these pets in the Trade World, but launch-week prices are inflated. Compare several listings first.
Every ~9.53 minutes, Wolpertinger advances a random plant by about 20.22 seconds for each magical plant in your garden. With 20 magical plants, that’s roughly 400 seconds saved per trigger. It’s steady rather than flashy, so I’d only run it if your garden is already packed with magical crops.
Redcap triggers every ~19 minutes. It either lowers a pet’s level by one to cut a random egg’s hatch time by about 21 minutes, or does the reverse. It also gains 12% of its current level’s XP each time.
On paper, that sounds bad. The catch is the Mimic Octopus: testers report that when Mimic copies Redcap, your pets age faster. That’s one source’s testing and could be an unintended bug, so try it on a single pet before investing.
Every ~29 minutes, Manticore consumes a fruit with at least eight mutations. It then has a 20% chance to apply Toxic to a random fruit, and each success can trigger another 20% roll. Tests showed about 12,000 XP per activation, reaching up to 15,000.
The long cooldown and the eight-mutation requirement make it slower than the other two. It’s great if you already hold heavily mutated fruit.
Pets aren’t the only addition. The patch also brings five plants: Prism Plume, Flutter Freesia, Royal Jelly Cup, Glimmervine, and Jellycap. There’s a Fairy Crate with five possible cosmetics, plus a Bee Garden activity called Flower Frenzy, where random flowers spawn and you pollinate them with your bee (or tap E) for rewards.
The Fairy Godmother sells four upgrades: Glimmer Multiplier, Roaming Fairy Spawn Amount, Fairy Event Duration, and Fairy Spawn Amount. I’d start with Glimmer Multiplier because it boosts every Wishing Well submission.
| Rank | Pet | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Redcap | Fast pet progression with Mimic |
| 2 | Manticore | Big XP plus Toxic chances |
| 3 | Wolpertinger | Reliable, but small gains |
That’s my ranking from current tests, and patches could change it. Compare it with our Grow a Garden pet tier list for older pets.
Pro tip: Screenshot your pet levels before testing Redcap, since it can lower them.
Three: Wolpertinger, Redcap, and Manticore.
Open the Fairy Chest, which holds three possible pets and three possible seeds. You can also buy them from other players in the Trade World.
It ends October 17 at 8pm UTC, so use your Fairy Points before then.
Not yet, in my view. Its level-lowering effect is confusing on its own, so I’d wait until the Mimic interaction is confirmed.
