Pickaxes are the backbone of Break and Steal an Egg. Every egg has a health bar, and your pickaxe’s Power decides how many swings it takes to crack it. I ranked all 20 pickaxes — from the free Wooden Pickaxe to the Omega-tier Enchanted Pickaxe — by cost, Power, and real progression value. My quick verdict: Stone, Lightning, and Hacker are the S-tier must-buys; Strawberry, Candy, Demon, and Sci Fi are skippable money traps; and the Enchanted Pickaxe (250B Power) is the strongest tool in the game.

Every pickaxe is a strict upgrade, so ranking them comes down to value. I compared cost-per-Power, which zone each one actually unlocks, and how long it stays relevant before the next must-buy. S-tier picks transform your break speed the moment you equip them. C-tier picks charge a premium for a small jump — bank that cash instead.

S-Tier — buy on sight. Stone costs just $80 and quadruples your Power, the cheapest upgrade in the game. Lightning (15K Power, $40M) has the best value of any mid-game tool and carries you through Swamp and Ocean. Hacker ($1.2T, 15M Power) finally cracks Blossom and Galaxy eggs. Enchanted is the endgame goal: 250B Power breaks Planet X’s toughest 3T-HP eggs in about a dozen swings.
A-Tier — strong, reliable buys. Diamond ($160K) clears Snowy and Candy eggs comfortably. Rainbow bridges Ocean and Volcano. Secret and Cool offer the best value above Cosmic, and Celestial is the strongest tool below Omega.
B-Tier — decent bridges. Golden, Cactus, Crystal, UFO, and Galaxy do their job, but each is outclassed quickly by the next S-tier pick.
C-Tier — money traps, skip them. Strawberry costs 7.5x Diamond’s price for only 4x Power. Candy and Demon repeat that trick mid-game. Sci Fi is the worst deal in the game at roughly $1M per Power point — while Enchanted costs $800K per point. Unless you need Sci Fi’s 75B Power for Planet X right now, save straight for Enchanted.
D-Tier — starter only. The Wooden Pickaxe exists for your first Forest eggs — replace it within ten minutes.

Match your pickaxe to the zone you’re actually farming — and remember Speed gates matter too:

Ranges overlap, so a low-end pickaxe usually survives into the next zone. If eggs break fine but pets get caught on the way home, spend on Speed instead.
The Pickaxe Shop sits inside the Safe Zone, next to the Animal Merging machine on the left side of spawn. Walk up, click the price under the pickaxe you can afford, and equip it. Running speed comes from Trails and treadmill training.
My rule: buy the next pickaxe when breaking eggs becomes the slowest part of your run. If pets keep getting caught on the run home, buy a Trail instead — a pickaxe won’t fix that. Egg health roughly quadruples each zone, so check the shop whenever your income jumps. Never save two tiers up while using a weak tool; mid-game prices climb five to ten times faster than Power.
