CoD: Black Ops 7 Zombies Gets Wild Zombie Bears & Punched Vehicle

Table Of Contents

Man, I’ve been covering Call of Duty for years, but nothing prepared me for what Treyarch just dropped on us with Black Ops 7 Zombies. When I first saw the footage of massive zombie bears charging through fog-covered roads while players frantically drove armored trucks with mounted turrets, I knew this wasn’t going to be your typical undead experience.

The Craziest Zombies Map Ever Built

Let me paint you a picture of what I experienced during my preview of Ashes of the Damned – this thing is absolutely massive. We’re talking about six map locations connected by dangerous stretches of road, making it the largest Zombies map in Call of Duty history.

The whole concept feels like an off-world “Bermuda Triangle,” where various earthly and celestial locations were transported and dropped into this place. I spent hours exploring areas like Janus Towers Plaza (with its collapsed tower and crackling electricity), the creepy Vandorn Farm, and the absolutely terrifying Blackwater Lake where phantoms haunt the dark waters.

But here’s where things get really interesting – the roads between these locations aren’t just empty highways. They’re shrouded in dangerous fog filled with aggressive enemies that’ll tear you apart if you’re brave (or stupid) enough to venture out on foot.

Meet Ol’ Tessie – Your New Best Friend

Meet Ol' Tessie - Your New Best Friend

Thank god for Ol’ Tessie, the game’s new Wonder Vehicle. This isn’t just some basic transportation – I’m talking about a fully upgradeable armored truck that becomes your lifeline in this hellscape. This truck is tough, but it isn’t impervious to the forces of the Dark Aether, and after a severe battering, it can become temporarily inoperable.

The coolest part? You can actually turn Ol’ Tessie into a mobile Pack-a-Punch machine. I watched in amazement as players clamped the Pack-a-Punch directly onto the truck’s exhaust system, creating this rolling weapon upgrade station. It’s honestly brilliant – imagine upgrading your guns while your buddy drives you through hordes of zombies.

The truck also gets other wild upgrades, including a mountable DG-2 turret and what appears to be the classic bus driver’s head from TranZit (yes, that T.E.D.D. is back, and he’s as sarcastic as ever).

Zombie Bears Are Absolutely Terrifying

Now let’s talk about Zursa – the zombie bear that’s giving me nightmares. These aren’t cute teddy bears gone wrong. We’re dealing with an undead bear elite enemy type that can absolutely wreck your day.

The Zursa is no ordinary bear, but a hulking, undead monstrosity whose thick hide and parasitic infestations make it an Elite level threat. When this thing charges at you on all fours, you better have a plan because its bite and claw attacks don’t just damage you – they wound you, leaving you vulnerable until you can recover.

But wait, it gets worse. These bears are literally crawling with parasitic insects called “Zombees” that swarm from hive-like growths on their fur. Picture fighting a massive undead bear while clouds of stinging insects are attacking you from all directions. It’s chaos in the best possible way.

Four Game Modes That Actually Matter

Treyarch isn’t messing around with variety this time. They’re launching with four distinct Zombies modes:

Standard Mode – This is your classic round-based experience with full access to main quests and side quests. Perfect for veterans who want the complete story.

Directed Mode – A more streamlined experience with clear objectives and guided progression. Great for newcomers or when you just want to focus on the main quest without getting lost.

Survival Mode – Remember these from Black Ops 2? They’re back! Survival Maps are coming to Zombies for the first time since Black Ops 2, delivering a focused, unfiltered experience based on a small part of Ashes of the Damned at launch. No quests, just pure survival.

Cursed Mode – This is where things get hardcore. Crafted for those seeking a more demanding experience, with new layers of challenge to discover and overcome for access to unique rewards. You start with just a pistol and have to find cursed relics that make the game even harder – but unlock exclusive rewards.

Wonder Weapons That Actually Wonder

The Necrofluid Gauntlet is hands down one of the coolest Wonder Weapons I’ve seen. Upon discovery, the Necrofluid Gauntlet is a black, skull-fanged glove that glows with a bilious greenish hue. This thing can reshape dark liquid into deadly spikes that shoot out and skewer enemies before being pulled back for more damage.

But they’re not stopping there – the classic Ray Gun and Ray Gun Mark II are also making their return. It’s like Treyarch is giving us the best of both worlds: nostalgic favorites and innovative new tools of destruction.

The Perks Game Is Strong

With 12 different Perk-a-Colas available (including 11 returning favorites), the customization options are insane. The new perk, Wisp Tea, caught my attention immediately. This perk provides a protective ethereal creature that remains near the player, appearing only after the player inflicts a large amount of damage to the enemy.

Basically, you get a ghostly companion that helps you fight zombies. The wisp can take different forms – a demon for more damage, a fox that can revive you, a monkey that distracts enemies, or a maiden that heals you. It’s like having a supernatural pet that adapts to your playstyle.

Dead Ops Arcade 4 Returns

I almost forgot to mention – Dead Ops Arcade is back! Dead Ops Arcade 4: Papaback in Black continues the completely insane storyline where you’re fighting the Silverback family over their pet chicken named Fidolina.

This time you’re facing the Papaback himself across over 80 levels and 20+ unique arenas. They’ve integrated round-based mechanics like Ammo Mods, Field Upgrades, and GobbleGums into the classic twin-stick shooter format. It’s absolutely bonkers in the best way possible.

Why This Changes Everything?

After spending time with Black Ops 7 Zombies, I can honestly say this feels like a completely fresh take on the formula while respecting what made the mode great in the first place. The combination of massive open areas connected by dangerous roads, the Wonder Vehicle system, and the sheer variety of content available at launch is impressive.

The zombie bears alone are worth the price of admission, but when you add in the Pack-a-Punch vehicle, four different game modes, and the return of Dead Ops Arcade, you’ve got what might be the most ambitious Zombies experience ever created.

Mark your calendars for November 14th, because Black Ops 7 is going to absolutely dominate the Zombies scene. And hey, you can even try out the Survival mode during the beta starting October 2nd – just don’t blame me when you can’t put it down.
